• Did you know?

The comfort level in all residential homes and commercial buildings is dependent on conditioned air circulating within the exterior walls and capped off by the roof. Homeowners pay large amounts of money monthly, to condition the air with expensive Air Conditioning (AC) units and Central Heat furnaces. In Texas, the cooling season is long and can be very uncomfortable, day and night, if the AC system is not able to keep up with the heat and humidity that penetrates uninsulated or poorly insulated walls and roofs. Uninsulated walls will lose 35% of all your conditioned air and the uninsulated roof is accountable for losing 25% of conditioned air. This loss is like throwing your hard-earned money right out the windows. Not only will it make your expensive AC system work overtime and shorten its life, the high humidity will aid in the development of mold and condensation within the home. Your home will always be uncomfortable and your savings account will suffer.

    New Construction

If your home or commercial building is in the new construction phase, R&H Residential Insulation contractors will create an accurate quote from your plan set. Our highly trained professionals will pre-walk your home in the framing stage and provide energy saving air sealing foam at all open penetrations, plates, doors and windows. Depending on your budget, we can offer different levels of wall insulation materials: wall fiberglass batts, loose blown-in rockwool or cellulose held together and in place with a binder to prevent sagging, open cell spray foam or closed cell spray foam insulation that seals and adds strength to your framed walls. With all of these materials, the prescribed R-value will be met in order to satisfy the code requirements of the IECC and Energy Star programs.

    Existing Wall Construction

Existing homes require a different approach to retrofitting insulation into the wall cavities between the stud framing. Holes are drilled from the outside of the home at every stud bay along the exterior of the home. Foam is injected into each individual hole to fill up the wall cavity. The foam slowly expands up the wall and around all obstacles to the top of the wall. As the foam cures, it hardens and provides an excellent air seal as well as sound deadener. Once all holes are injected, they are filled and repairs are made to match the original look of the home.

    Attics

Attics can also be insulated in several different ways according to the budget and to the overall construction of the home or building. The most common approach is attic fiberglass batts or blown in, cellulose or rockwool blown-in insulation. The material is blown-in to a depth that meets or beats Texas R-value standards. The attic space can have spray foam applied to the underside of the roof deck forming a sealed and conditioned attic that makes your AC system work better and last longer. Conditions have to be right when constructing the home before this can be properly done and the cost is higher than blown in insulation, but well worth it for the life of the home and AC equipment.
